The 34th Annual Hope Gala, the single largest fundraiser for the American Cancer Society in Birmingham, will be August 23 at a private club. All funds raised support Birmingham’s Joe Lee Griffin Hope Lodge and research in our area. 400-500 are expected to attend.

The honoree and inspiration this year is late artist Toni Tully. The Tully family is donating 3 of her paintings to be auctioned and loaning paintings and textiles that will be used as part of the decor throughout the club.

20-30% of Gala proceeds come from silent and live auctions.

Please consider making a donation to this auction. Works that are inspired by Toni Tully, given in her memory or in memory of a friend or loved one would especially be appreciated.

According to the American Cancer Society, approximately 1.5 million new cancer cases are expected to be diagnosed in the United States in 2014. More than 560,000 Americans will lose their battle. That’s nearly 1,500 people a day. In the United States, one of every four deaths is from cancer. The American Cancer Society is committed to changing these devastating odds.

All donations are tax-deductible, and all artists will be recognized at the event.

Hope Gala Birmingham

Since 2000, the American Cancer Society’s Joe Lee Griffin Hope Lodge in Birmingham, Alabama has offered a solution to cancer patients who must undergo treatment far from home. The Hope Lodge provides housing free of charge on a first-come, first served basis to cancer patients and their families during their course of treatment. The Hope Lodge not only reduces the financial burden, but also provides a much-needed supportive environment.

Guests of the Hope Lodge enjoy rooms with a private bath and television. Other amenities include a shared kitchen, library, dining room, living room and laundry room. Guests are able and encouraged to make themselves very much at home, engaging in such normal everyday activities as buying groceries, preparing meals, doing dishes, working at a computer terminal or watching television.
