Hoover resident, G.G. Burns has over 30-years experience as a fashion illustrator and graphic designer. Originally from Collinsville, AL … GG lived in Birmingham in the late 70’s through the early 80’s. GG is a graduate of Southern Institute with a degree in Fashion Merchandising. After working as a graphic artist for Martin, White and Mickwee Advertising agency, GG found her dream job as a fashion illustrator for Gayfers department stores in Mobile, AL. In the mid 90’s until 2016, GG, her husband and son lived in Lexington, KY; where GG worked as a technical illustrator for Lexmark International, J. Pererman, Inc, and then later founded and managed her own graphic design business. In the past 10 years, GG has finally had time to explore fine art and prefers mixed media. GG enjoys painting on ceramic tiles as well as watercolor and acrylic paintings. GG has exhibited at many gallery events and has sold her art all over the world.
GG calls her style “Functional Art” – art that serves a purpose and is more than just something that hangs on a wall or sits on a shelf. GG’s “Functional Art” stimulates inspiration and discussion, sends a message and connects people through conversation.
GG has also spent over 10 years advocating at a state and federal level, for mental health reform for people with severe brain diseases such as schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. GG was very involved in lobbying for legislation that just passed in congress called the “Helping Families in Mental Health Crisis Act”, which was recently signed into law under the 21st Century Cures Act by President Obama.
