Bio
Martha is from Alabaster, Alabama and has a diverse background in the arts. She majored in art at Auburn University and at University of Alabama in Birmingham where she earned a BA degree in Fine Art. She worked as a commercial artist and as a medical illustrator, and had a successful mural business for 15 years. She has painted in watercolor for over 40 years and has won awards for her paintings. She has received many commissions for watercolor portraits of people as well as animals, homes and businesses. Martha has illustrated “Treasures in an Alabama Attic”, a children’s book by Sheror Caton Moore and the covers for “Fog on My Path” and “The Fog Has Lifted” by Tony Serio. She serves on the board of Alabama Plein Air Artists and for Mt. Brook Art Association where she has recently served as V.P. of Programs in 2023 and 2024 and is President Elect for 2025 . She developed her skills in watercolor through workshops with Wayne Spradley, Don Rankin and Pat Hall. She has taken oil workshops with Dawn Whitelaw, John Lasater, Jason Sacran, Caleb O’Conner, John Guernsey, Craig Reynolds, and Barbara Binford Davis. She studied portraiture for several years with Terry Strickland. She has also studied gouache painting with Kay Lewis, Manon Sander and Kathleen Denis. In everything that she does she seeks to glorify God through her work and gives thanks to Him for His gifts. (Colossians 3:17)
