Mary Ann Floyd

I am an emerging artist living in Highland Park neighborhood. I waited many years to begin my artist’s journey. As a child I watched my father paint in our backyard, and use words like burnt sienna and raw umber. I knew one day I would paint! I was born in Birmingham, but grew up in Huntsville, Alabama.. After completing my college degree in Medical Technology I settled in Birmingham and worked in the medical field for 45 years, I also raised 4 children during this time so art had to wait. Fortunately, I was able to take lessons in watercolor from a neighbor, who was a local artist, and later also took classes in acrylics from another local artist. Currently I am focused on oil painting. Since retirement, I have been painting with a frenzy, no longer waiting to do what i love! Putting paint on a canvas, with brush or palette knife, and arrangng it to take on a life of it’s own is my reward each day. Painting portraits is my favorite activity, people or pets. I have done a few commissions but would love to expand and do more.
