Bio
I was born and raised in California, surrounded by my mother’s beautiful impressionist paintings. She was mentored by Sergei Bongart, and she sparked my interest in art at an early age. But I was drawn to the sciences, like my aerospace engineer father. I devoted my life to scientific research and teaching, including 20 years as a professor of immunology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. After a rewarding “first chapter”, I have started a new and exciting chapter, developing my long-held passion for artistic expression. My paintings aim to emotionally touch and engage the viewer. I enjoy painting portraits and plein air landscapes. I have participated in workshops in Los Angeles, CA and Birmingham, AL. My work has received recognition at Art Fairs and chosen for gallery display. I appreciate being part of the Alabama art community, which has been instrumental in my artistic growth. My mentors are my mother, Natalie Timares, and Birmingham artists Amy Peterson and Amy Collins. I am a member of APAA and MBAA.
