Help highlight mental illness struggles via ART! Cash awards…

Art of HopeHenry Matisse said it best. “Creativity takes courage.”

The Junior Board is calling Birmingham artists to submit their best work throughout the first two weeks of September. While we welcome art of all kinds, we hope that our event provides a therapeutic outlet specifically for those struggling with mental illness. By creating a safe and supportive environment, we hope to illuminate both the struggles and triumphs of mental illness and show those who are battling that they are not alone.
We will be allowing artwork to be sold at the event. If an artist would like to sell their artwork, they must be present to handle the transaction. We will not be keeping any of the sales. All proceeds from the sale will be kept by the artist.

Additionally, we will be accepting any form of artwork (paintings, photography, pottery, etc.). Our only request is that the piece is delivered in a form that can be displayed (ex. photography is framed).  Because we recognize the courage it takes to illustrate thoughts and emotions that are so often inexpressible, artists will have the opportunity to win cash prizes of $250 in one of the following categories:
· Best choice of subject matter

· Most hopeful

· Best use of color

· Judges’ choice

Interested artists can find more details or complete an entry form at www.afspartofhope.com. After submitting your best work, feel free to grab some friends and come out to the event, which will spotlight some of the best art in Birmingham. Plus, enjoy free hor d’oeuvres, a cash bar and live music. We hope to see you there!
