All art purchases from the Holiday Art Show this year will benefit Make-A-Wish Foundation of Alabama, a newly-formed sister organization of the North Georgia Chapter, which was started by the son of Mountain Brook Art Association President, Janet Sanders.  We are so pleased to be able to partner this year with this amazing organization, and here’s why, as shared by Mountain Brook Art Association member, Sally Powell…

“Billy is my sister Molly’s son. Molly grew up here and graduated from Mountain Brook High School in ’84 so a lot of people in the community will know who she is and may also know Billy’s story as he is on prayer lists all over. He was born with a very rare condition called heterotaxy which causes the organs to be formed abnormally. He had a heart transplant at the age of one month old and his little life has been one miracle after another. Because of the anti-rejection drugs and a virus his kidneys have been damaged severely and he is now on kidney dialysis at home while he awaits the go-ahead for a kidney transplant. My sister is the donor.

Billy has had the best of care with the superb medical staff at Egelston Children’s Hospital of Atlanta. When the Make a Wish Foundation learned of the kidney transplant they came out to meet the family in their home in Denver,  NC,  just outside of Charlotte, NC. When asked what his wish was, Billy said he wanted to go see Mickey Mouse. We are pretty sure that he may have been influenced by his big sister Annie who will also benefit from his wish. The wish for a trip to Disney was granted! My sister wanted to make sure that people understand that the foundation does not only grant wishes to terminal children but also to children with life-threatening chronic illnesses. Billy lives in Denver, NC with his sister Annie (7) and parents, Molly and Mark Johnson.”
