“Paint-Out” Indoors with Alabama Plein Air Artists on July 21st!

Here are some photos of a recent workshop at the church to give you an idea of the room. Can probably accommodate 20 artists:

You’re invited to join the Alabama Plein Air Artists (APAA) on their July “paint out” which will actually be a “paint in” indoors at South Highland Presbyterian Church on Saturday, July 21 anytime between 8 AM – 5 PM.  There will not be any instruction but lots of camaraderie and fun in our cool, well-lighted fellowship hall.

The Plan: The idea is to paint florals and still life arrangements.  We need people to bring and arrange flowers and objects for the set ups. In order to know where to fill in the gaps, please email or call Gayle Hurley with what you might bring or if you’d like to contribute some money ($5-10) toward purchasing fresh flowers.  If you create the setup, then you get first dibs on where to place your easel!

You MUST bring a tarp to protect the floor, paper towels, your regular setup, etc.  Please use only odor-free solvents like Gamsol with oils. And wait to wash out your brushes at home please. Acrylics and watercolors are fine, too.

Time: Come as early as 8 AM and stay as late as 5/6 PM.

Food: There’s a snack and drink machine at the church and lots of places to eat nearby. We might order some Roly-Poly sandwiches to be delivered or bring a sack lunch.

Painting from a model:  After lunch, it might be fun to paint from a model (optional) so indicate if you’d like to do that. We suggest a $10 fee to help pay the model and other expenses. We might also do some exercises “a la Peggi Kroll” with the figure. If you’re interested in this, please indicate via email and you will receive some photos of past exercises.

Directions: Click HERE for the general church directions and map.   Once you’re in front of the church on Highland Ave., drive up the alley behind the chapel and unload your gear at one of two rear entrances which will be marked.  Then, park in the western-most lot that’s close by.
